Helen Louise Sidener passed away on October 18, 2016, at The Fountains, at the age of 91.
She was born on September 10, 1925, to Kenneth and Mabel Comrie in a little red house on the ranch of her grandparents in El Jebel, Colorado, near Carbondale, Colorado.
Helen attended school in Glenwood Springs, and graduated from Garfield County High School in 1944. After graduation, she attended Central Business College in Denver and was employed at the Naval Convalescent Hospital in Glenwood, which was the Colorado Hotel adapted for service during World War II.
On August 11, 1946, she was married to her high school sweetheart, Rex Sidener, after his service in the Marines. They were blessed with two children: daughter, Sherry Lynn, and son, Kelly Gene. During their married years they lived in Glenwood Springs; Fairbanks, Alaska; and Lakewood, California until 1959 when they moved to Grand Junction.
For over 25 years, Helen worked at Mesa Memorial and St. Mary's Hospitals doing office work, which she loved. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and crocheting. She was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Rex, on January 17, 2008; her parents, and brother, Kenneth Leroy.
She is survived by her children, Sherry Opp of Grand Junction and Kelly Sidener and his wife, Jeremy, of Parksville, B.C.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jean Horton and husband, Kit, and sister-in-law, Anita Sherry and husband, Doug, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of Grand Junction.
A special thanks goes out to the staff of The Fountains and Nightingale's Home Care for all of the loving care they provided.
At her request, family memorial services will be held with Helen and Rex's ashes being scattered in their beloved mountains at a later date.
