Hugh David MacLean
July 19, 1936 - June 22, 2014
Hugh David MacLean was born July 19, 1936, in Kitchener/Waterloo Ontario, Canada welcomed by sisters, Miriam and Mary Patricia and soon to be the big brother of twin boys, Michael and Terry.
David graduated from Kitchener/Waterloo Collegiate and went on to enroll at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg where he graduated as a Professional Geophysicist. His first job was at Noranda Mining Co. in Quebec, Canada.
During that time he made many trips to ""the big city"" Toronto, where his sister introduced him to Shirley Bartman. As the friendship grew, the distance seemed to shorten and on July 2, 1966, their marriage took place. Their first ""home"" turned out to be a tent in the northern wilderness accessible only by bush plane. After that it seemed the world was waiting for him - Africa, the Arctic, Australia, Europe and the Far East. The work he was proudest of was providing technical geophysics for the U.S. Army neutralization of enemy tunnels in the demilitarized zone of the Republic of Korea in the late 80's.
David was passionate about trading on the stock market; it was more than a hobby with him. Winter was the best time of year, cross-country and downhill skiing as long as winter lasted. His strong Christian faith was evident in his thoughtful deeds and he had a soft heart for all God's creatures. He was a voracious reader and exuberant for all which interested him, often over the top in his endeavors.
David is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley of Grand Junction, Colorado and his brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 19, 2014, at noon at Mesa Methodist Community Church, 10897 US Highway 65, Mesa, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to HopeWest Hospice, 3090B North 12th Street, Grand Junction 81506 or CLAWS, 2214 Sanford Drive, Grand Junction, 81505.
