
Born in Grand Junction to Chet and Pat Barnes, Jack was a lifelong Coloradan who proudly served his country and his community. After graduating from Fruita High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1963. He served honorably for six years before being discharged in 1969. Jack remained proud of his military service throughout his life.
Following his time in the Navy, Jack dedicated countless hours to serving others through volunteer work at the VA Hospital and the Welcome Center in Fruita, Colorado. Whether helping fellow veterans or welcoming visitors to the area, he was known for his generosity, kindness, and willingness to lend a hand.
Jack was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his sons, Jack Barnes Jr., Jason Barnes, and Ryan Barnes; his grandsons, Jack Barnes and Nick Barnes; his sister, Linda Barnes Currey, and her husband, Ken Currey; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will cherish his memory.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
The family is grateful for the love and support shown during this difficult time. Jack’s legacy of service, compassion, and dedication to his family and community will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him
