James Lee Adcock, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, in Grand Junction surrounded by his children. He was a Grand Junction and Palisade resident for 44 years. Jim was born on July 28, 1935, in Houston, Texas to Maldon and Opal Adcock. His family moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1941 and then to Denver in 1948. He graduated in 1954 from South High School in Denver. Jim married Shirley McCoy in 1960, (divorced 2005), had four children and lived in the Denver area until 1980 when they moved to Grand Junction. Jim worked at many jobs but enjoyed delivering newspapers for the Denver Post and the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel most of all. Jim was fortunate to find a very special companion late in life with Barbara Powers and spent the last 18 years with her.
In his spare time Jim enjoyed yard work, bowling, gambling, and most of all singing karaoke. He had a talent for singing that didn’t surface until his late 50’s, and enjoyed a deep love of music. During Jim’s younger years he was an expert rifleman, an Eagle Scout, and a member of ROTC in high school. He also excelled at playing the trumpet. He spent eight years in the 140th wing of the Colorado Air National Guard. Jim enjoyed watching his sons race motocross for many years. Jim was an avid bowler and one of the many highlights in his life was bowling a perfect 300 game in Grand Junction in his early 60’s.
Jim is survived by his children Julie (Scott) Bullock, Michael (Irma) Adcock, Robin Adcock (Stephanie Bernstein), and Jodi (Matthew) Koning. He had eight grandchildren, Kyle, Sarah, Amri, Kody, Jackson, Cash, Opal, and Viola, and five great-grandchildren, Indica, Kytan, Ayla, Rivers and Gus. He is also survived by one brother, Roger (Emily) Adcock and several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his ex-wife, and a nephew Joe Adcock.
A private family celebration of life for Jim will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024. Contributions may be made in his name to HopeWest, 3090 N. 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
