

Jerry was born in Kansas June 7, 1939. He grew up in the small town of Effingham. He joined the Army after high school and was stationed in Los Angeles where he quickly became a fan of the LA Dodgers. After his time in the Army, he went to the University of Colorado for his undergraduate degree and ultimately ended up at the University of Oregon where he received his Doctorate in Arts.
Jerry was a lifelong student, teacher, poet, author and DMV office manager.
Jerry was the loving father of Brandon (Lisa) Higley, grandfather of Jordon and Nathan Higley, husband of Joanne Nortz (deceased) and Lori Ball, and brother of Tim (Carol) Higley.
Jerry loved sports and was fan of the LA Dodgers for 70 years and a fan of the UO Ducks for over 55 years.
The family expresses thanks for the help and care given by the VA, First Light Home Care, the Lower Valley Fire Department (LVFD)and Hope West Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, LVFD and Hope West Hospice.
