Born in Appleton, Colorado on January 6, 1928, John answered the call to serve his country as a young man in the United States Army. As a member of the 187th Airborne Infantry Regiment, he demonstrated extraordinary bravery during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in action.
But to those who knew him best, John’s greatest role was not soldier — it was husband, father, and grandfather.
He was an incredibly hard worker who believed providing for his family was both an honor and a responsibility. Through long days and quiet sacrifices, he built a life rooted in faith. God was the cornerstone of his life, and he led his family with humility, strength, and steadfast love.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sophia; his children Anita, Jeannie Tobias, and their families. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael.
John was also a proud grandfather and a great-grandfather to thirteen great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
His life reminds us that true greatness is found not only on the battlefield, but at the family table — in the quiet, faithful love of a man who gave everything for those he cherished.
