February 23, 1939 – March 1, 2010
Jose O. Garcia went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, March 1, 2010. Jose had just celebrated his 71st birthday the week before his death.
Jose was born, one of eight children to Fulgencio and Senovia (Trujillo) Garcia in Tres Piedras, NM and spent his childhood in Center, CO. He lived his life at the fullest. Hard rock and coal mining was the career he chose to make a living. He was a honorably discharged United States Army veteran from 1956-57. And in October 3, 1959 he married Maida A. Cordova in Del Norte, CO, she survives. The family previously lived in Leadville, Basalt, and Rifle, CO before moving to Grand Junction where they lived for the last 20 years.
Jose was a member of the Clifton Assembly of God Church and family was most important to Jose after his love for the Lord. In retirement, Jose lived for the times he could spend with his family and friends.
Jose loved singing Christian songs and was a craftsman who was very talented in woodworking. He never kept his finished pieces, all became gifts for someone. Selfishness was not a word in Jose’s vocabulary. He could never do enough for the people he cared about. He fought a long battle with sickness, to live as long as he could, despite his health issues. His faith in healing brought him through the worst of health problems, and was a testimony to all of us, of where his beliefs were. In his final days, Jose finally surrendered his family after full assurance all would be well if he went home to be with Jesus.
Jose leaves behind his Maida Garcia, his wife of fifty years, a son; Danny Garcia of Denver, CO, two daughters; Debra (Alfred) Orozco of Grand Junction, CO and Beverly (Antonio) Broadus of Denver, CO, a brother; Harold Garcia of Los Angeles, CA, three sisters; Elva Rivas of Grand Junction, CO, Mary Duran and Loyda Maez both of Center, CO, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Jose was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Pilar Garcia, Edward Garcia, Andrew Garcia, a daughter; Linda Garcia and a son; Travis Garcia.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 8, 2010 at the Clifton Assembly of God Church. Military honors will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, March 8, 2010 at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
