husband of 46 years and family by her side. Born in Snowmass, CO on September 12, 1940,
she was the daughter of the late Ella Mobley and Dot Hewitt. Growing up in Aspen, CO, she
later moved to Denver, CO, where she graduated from East High School, and attended the
University of Northern Colorado. Joyce married Dee Bethel in 1959, and together they had three
daughters. After her first marriage ended, Joyce met Rudy Rodriguez, and they were married on
Valentine's Day in 1976, holding a double wedding with her brother and his bride.
Joyce and her husband shared a passion for entrepreneurship, and opened an upholstery shop
together. They worked side by side for 13 years, sewing, talking and laughing. Prior to opening
an upholstery shop, Joyce owned the Big E Market in Eckert, CO. Joyce had a passion for
collecting unusual and neat items from all over the world, and had a story for every item she
collected. This led to her opening Joyce’s Antiques. Joyce also opened the very first UPS
shipping center in Delta, CO. Joyce and her husband were a great team who were passionate
about real estate, offering affordable housing to many in the Delta area.
Joyce and her husband began going to Quartzsite, AZ, to sell her many finds at the Main Event.
Over the 30 years of going to Arizona they met countless friends, and made memories that will
last a lifetime. Joyce loved everything the desert had to offer, as well as plants, birds, national
parks, ATVing, traveling, camping, sewing, collecting jewelry, riding horses, shopping antique
and thrift stores, visiting museums, playing card games, technology, and spending quality time
with her family and friends. Joyce was such a creative and talented person, who knew so many
fun facts. She was the definition of a lifelong learner, who was so full of joy, intelligence, and
wisdom, always knowing exactly what to say at any given moment. She was the most generous
and caring person, always donating to local charities and helping family and friends. She was a
one of a kind individual, who was loved and cherished deeply by everyone who knew her, and
she was her entire family’s rock.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Bob Hewitt and Richard
Miner.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband Rudy Rodriguez, and her daughters Beth Ann Bethel,
Judy Huffington (Scott), Mary White (Jerry), and Amanda Locke (Jamie). She had six
grandchildren: Candace White, Sierra Huffington, Gene White, Madissen Gallo, Victoria Locke
and Gabrielle Locke. She was blessed and thrilled to welcome her first great-grandson into the
world, Jaxon (Candace).
In lieu of services, the family asks that you continue to share Joyce’s love for giving back, by
donating to a local charity of your choice in her remembrance.
A celebration of life will be held this upcoming Summer.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.MartinMortuary.com for the Rodriguez family.
