She preferred her middle name, Denise and was sometimes called Niesy by close friends and family.
Denise is survived by her loving husband that she has been with for over 46 years, Eric Brown of Whitewater CO, two boys, Ethan (Emily) Brown of Grand Junction CO & Justin Brown (Hailee Summer) of Grand Junction CO, two beautiful granddaughters, Isla & Ruby Brown of Grand Junction, CO. Two brothers David Altman (Neang Kov) of West Jordan UT and Derek (Teresa) Hart of Lowell MI and her brother-in-law Jason (Amy) of Glade Park, CO along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Denise was born in Jesup GA on October 9th, 1965, to Judy & Harold Altman. Denise, her mom and brother David moved to Milpitas, CA when she was about 4 years old and became part of a new family with her new dad, Jerry Hart. Later her brother Derek was born, and they eventually moved to Grand Junction in 1979. Not long after, she met her 9th grade, forever sweetheart, Eric at Orchard Mesa Junior High. She and Eric waited 6 years and were married on April 26, 1986, and just recently celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary. They lived on Orchard Mesa for 11 years where they settled down and had two amazing boys Ethan in 1990 and Justin in 1994. Denise and her family moved to their current home in Whitewater, CO in 1997.
Denise attended OM Jr. High, GJHS and Mesa College for a year. She was an avid reader and loved to read just about anything from Nicholas Sparks, especially “the Notebook”. Denise worked for B. Dalton Book Sellers in Mesa Mall on and off for many years. Denise also worked as a bookkeeper for Brown Office Products, a bank teller at United Bank and Mesa County Federal Credit Union and as a school bus driver for Laidlaw for SD51. But her most loved and final job she did for the last 20 years was as a Paraprofessional/Reading Aid for SD451 at Mesa View Elementary. She dearly loved children and could not wait to have grandchildren. In fact, she threatened many times to steal little ones away from their parents and bring them home until she got some grandchildren of her own. That never happened, but everyone thought….it could have.
Denise loved to help and be active in her community and was an active volunteer for many civic and youth organizations. She volunteered for the lady's auxiliary of the Clifton VFW post 4663 with Eric's grandmother where she helped mostly with selling pull tabs during their bingo nights. Denise also volunteered as a youth football team mom for the OM Packers for several seasons, a committee member for Cub Scouts & Boy Scouts of America and also as member of the Lands' End Fire Auxiliary. Denise was loved by so many and had that special spark that would brighten the darkest of days. She was a stranger to nobody and loved to be in the middle of most any conversation. She thrived as a social butterfly and connected in a positive way with so many people.
Denise will be missed by so many loved ones, friends and family.
