OBITUARY

Lacy Ashtyn Baldwin

June 5, 2006November 16, 2021

It is with the greatest sorrow that we announce the passing of our fabulous Lacy-Lou. Lacy Ashtyn Baldwin (age 15) passed peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of Tuesday, November 16th after a lifelong battle with epilepsy. Lacy was born on June, 5 2006 to parents Al and Tami Baldwin in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Lacy loved Elvis Presley, bouncy balls, bubbles, music, singing with Grandma Ann, dance parties, books, coloring, bandaids, tooth brushes, swimming, every stuffed animal (ever!), McDonald's, and she especially loved her big brother, “Babo” (Brandon) and looked up to him in a huge way. Lacy’s radiant smile brought a spark of pure joy, happiness, and unconditional love to every soul she touched. She was very active in the local Special Olympics, Challenger Baseball, a sophomore at Fruita Monument High School, and made so many incredible friends along the way that made her life all the richer. Lacy faced her medical battles with a fortitude and resilience that inspired all who knew her story. She was so loved by the community and she never met a stranger. The impact she had on all of us in such a short time was larger than many accomplish in a lifetime. Lacy truly left a little sparkle wherever she went.

Lacy is preceded in death by her Papa, Jim Sanders, and Grandmother, Wanda Baldwin.

Lacy is survived by her Mother “Her Tami” Tami Sanders, Father Al Baldwin (Lori), Brother Brandon “Babo” Baldwin, her beloved service dog Lexi, Grandma Ann Sanders, Aunt Kim “Mimi” Boehm (Brian, Tess, Connor), Uncle Coy Baldwin (Carrie, Ryan, Madison, Jake), and countless friends that were very much family.

Services will were held at AP Ranch in Loma Colorado on Tuesday November 23rd at 11 am with a fellowship reception afterwards. Lacy loved bright colors and funky outfits, so please feel free to dress in pink, purple, or any other bright color!. Graveside services will be held at Cedar Crest Cemetery in Colbran.

In lieu of flowers, we would be honored if you would make a donation in Lacy’s name to Domesti-PUPS, to help other Epilepsy children know and benefit from the joy of having a service dog. Checks can be mailed to P.O Box 21725 Lincoln, NE 68542.

God saw you getting tired, when a cure was not to be. So he wrapped his arms around you, and whispered, “come to me”. You didn’t deserve what you went through, so he gave you rest. God’s garden must be beautiful, he only takes the best. And when I saw you sleeping, so peaceful and free from pain I could not wish you back to suffer that again. -Unknown

My favorite memories of Lacy-Lou came from the summer that I was her 1:1 at summer school. She was always happy to see me in the morning when we would be getting on the bus.
There was this one day that we did not want to work and we bribed her with taking a funny picture. That was all it took to make her day, a silly picture with me. If that is all it took I would have taken a million more.
Somewhere along the way that same summer she kept kicking my butt at basketball every time we would go to the gym. Every time she would take a shot and it would go right into the basket. While as every time I would try to take a shot it would go flying across the gym. So I would have to go running after it. She would be laughing at me so hard I thought her lungs were going to burst. I can not help but laugh at the memory of that summer. She taught me so much and she showed me so much love. There was never a day that Lacy was short on love. She maybe have had a really crappy day, but she would always be smiling. It was a smile that you saw and you could not help but smile yourself. Her hugs could make your whole day so much better.

I was lacy’s Peer for 3 years and she had a smile that could light up any room. I miss her so much. I’ve known her for 6 years and to not have her yell my name from across the lunch room anymore or color with me and give me giant hugs makes me hurt in an indescribable way.

Lacy Lou
The encounters I’ve had with this phenomenal girl have always been nothing short of amazing and enlightening.

When I first met Lacy I was immature and naive to the joy of what children can bring to your soul. However, after meeting her I was immediately smitten.

Her smile and personality catches you off guard at first because a lot of people aren’t used to genuine and unconditional love at first sight.

The ability to fight against things you can’t control while still maintaining the desire to uplift others is unimaginable to most. Lacy isn’t like most people though.

When I introduced her to my boy she was so excited and wanted to hold him. I told her let’s wait until he falls asleep because he wouldn’t sit still. After he fell asleep she was so excited to have him sprawled across her lap and have a picture taken. She also met my husband for the first time on that trip when we visited and she instantly bonded with him.

Lacy Lou is such an example to all of us on how to uplift and cheer on others even if you don’t know them.

If I am having a hard day- I’m going to choose to be like Lacy.

If I’m having a great day- I’m going to choose to be like Lacy.

Whatever might come my way- I’m going to choose to be like Lacy.

I’m also going to teach my son the importance of being being everything that Lacy is, because she still IS! And I for one am never going to let the world forget it.

I worked with sweet Lacy when she was in preschool at Shelledy Preschool. She had my heart from the moment I met her. Lacy had a spark that left everyone feeling loved when they met her and saw that incredible Lacy smile that warmed up the universe. She was a beautiful soul, both inside and out. Lacy will always have a special place in my heart. My heart also goes out to you Tami, Brandon and the rest of your family during this difficult time 🥰💕💕💕. I took this picture of Lacy in 2017 when she was participating in Challenger Baseball.
