Larry was a kind, loving, and thoughtful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will forever be remembered for his love of Yorkies, working, and craftsmanship. Larry Jean Gavin, 81, passed away peacefully in his home in Grand Junction, Colorado on September 11, 2023.
He was born in Grand Junction, Colorado in 1942 to Albert and Laura Gavin, who provided an example of how to care for those they loved and work hard in life. Albert worked for the city of Grand Junction as a firefighter for 37 years, to which Larry followed into public service by working for the city of Grand Junction as a parking technician for 42 years before he retired. After retiring from the city, he went to work for Colorado Mesa University, formerly Mesa State College, with the parking department for an additional 10 years. Larry not only cared for the meters of the city, but the people as well, always making the effort to befriend all who crossed his path.
Larry met the love of his life, Linda Gavin, in 1981. The two shared a love of working on projects together. Often, you could find them going for drives through Western Colorado in their antique cars. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married in 1982 in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Larry and Linda brought together Holli, Tim, and Jon as their children to create their loving, blended family. He shared his love of the outdoors, nature, and animals with his children. He will be remembered by them as he passed down his craftsmanship, love for automobiles, rockhounding, and caring for those around them.
Larry was always willing to do anything for his family. He opened his arms, doors, and heart to all who crossed his path. Family meant more to Larry than anything else and was loved by them to the very end.
Everyone who knew Larry knew how much he loved automobiles and motorcycles. He could often be found attending meetings or events with the Veteran’s Motor Car Club of America (VMCCA), Wheel’s West Car Club, and Chapter 3 of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club. His love of cars was obvious to all who knew him as he boasted an impressive collection of antique automobiles.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Laura Gavin, and is survived by his wife Linda, his children Holli Dawn Gavin, Tim and Jennifer Mild, and Jon Mild, and his grandchildren Morgann Means, Ashtonn Means and Matthew Jones, Alexis and Philip Mosele, and Austin Mild.
Larry will always be remembered for his never-ending love. However, he had a special spot in his heart for Yorkies. As a result, we would like to ask that all those who wish to send their condolences to the family would opt to donate to a local animal shelter in his memory.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.callahan-edfast.com for the Gavin family.
