

Leonard Eugene Harvey, age 86, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026. He was born on May 16, 1940, in La Junta, Colorado, and grew up in Pueblo, Colorado. Leonard was the son of Carl Elmer Harvey and Thelma Nadine Goss Harvey.
Leonard proudly served his country in the United States Army from April 1959 to May 1963 with the 814th Engineer Company. Stationed in Germany, he worked as a bridge specialist, helping build bridges across the Rhine River.
Following his military service, Leonard devoted his life to caring for others through a long and respected career in nursing and mental health care. He earned his GED through the United States Armed Forces, attended Cerritos College in California where he earned an Associate degree in Nursing, completed his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Southern Colorado, and later attended the University of Arizona’s Nurse Practitioner program.
Throughout his career, Leonard worked at Colorado State Hospital in Pueblo as a psychiatric technician, Goodyear Tire in Los Angeles, and as a jail nurse for the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. He then spent 28 years serving veterans through the Veterans Administration Hospital system, including positions in Fort Lyon, Colorado, and Grand Junction, Colorado, where he worked as a psychiatric nurse practitioner, staff nurse, head nurse, nurse supervisor, and nurse practitioner.
Leonard was deeply committed to his community and generously volunteered his time teaching CPR classes, coaching soccer, serving as a Boy Scouts of America Scoutmaster, and serving on the Mt. Garfield Federal Credit Union Board from 1987 to 2001.
On March 9, 1963, Leonard married the love of his life, Elnora Lynne Willcox. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, service, and compassion.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Norma Helen Harvey Curtis, Fred Arnold Harvey, James Ronald Harvey, and Karen Jean Harvey Fisher; and his daughter, Tanya Lynne Harvey.
He is survived by his wife, Elnora Lynne Harvey; his son, Russ Harvey, his wife Wendy E Harvey and 3 grandchildren; Nydia, Alyssa and Daniel and many extended family members, friends, coworkers, and community members whose lives were touched by his kindness and dedication.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Patterson Road Church of Christ in Grand Junction, Colorado; 2893 Patterson Rd., Grand Junction, CO 81506
Leonard will be remembered for his quiet strength, his lifelong service to others, his devotion to veterans and patients, and the love he shared with his family and friends. A special thanks to Aspen Ridge Alzheimer’s Care Center and Hope West Care Center.
