Lila Trujillo, 93, of Fruita, Colorado, passed away on May 16, 2026, from head trauma sustained in a fall. She was born on May 1, 1933, in Youngsville, New Mexico, to Tito Emilio Trujillo and Antonia Rosa Sandoval.
A woman of vibrant energy and enduring spirit, Lila loved staying active—she was a devoted gym-goer and believed in the power of movement well into her later years. She also enjoyed shopping, cheering on her favorite teams (the Denver Broncos and the Nuggets), and spending time with family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Kenny Trujillo; brothers Tito and Frank Trujillo; and sisters Edumenia Baraza, Ida Serrano, and Gloria Gallegos.
Lila is survived by her beloved husband, Jesus Madarieta; sisters Mela Gutierrez (Frank) of Odessa, Texas, and Carol Lobato (Leland) of Sunnyside, Utah; brother John Trujillo (Patty) of Fruita; daughter Barbara Trujillo-Lopez (Rey) of Tucson, Arizona; four grandchildren—Eric Sandoval (Michelle), Kenneth Trujillo (Jennifer), Antonia Trujillo, and Monica Paramo (Alex); and four cherished great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be held at 6:00 PM this Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fruita, followed by a funeral Mass on Monday at 10:30 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to HopeWest Hospice Care Center, whose compassionate care supported Lila and her family during her final days.
