March 4, 1925 - August 31, 2018
Lillian passed away August 31, 2018 in Eagle, Idaho. Lillian was born to Carl & Myrtle Forstrom
on March 4, 1925 in Grand Junction, CO. Lillian married John H Schoening on August 12, 1947
in Grand Junction. They had two children, Carol Ann & David Henry.
She graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1942. After high school, Lillian joined the
Navy and did her nurses training on the east coast. Unfortunately for her, the Navy decided a
telephone operator was more of what they needed at the time. She was shipped to California to
fulfill this job and would remain in that position for the duration of her military career. Lillian was
honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946. After returning to Grand Junction, she went to
work for the telephone company and went on to retire from Biggs Kurtz as a telephone operator.
Lillian was an active member in many clubs. She was a member of the Elks Ladies for many
years and was also the person behind the Grand Junction High school Class of 1942 Reunions
up until a few years ago. Grandma and Grandpa bowled for many years & also spent numerous
years traveling the world. They had many friends and were a part of the RV club that traveled
the country. They spent many winters in Arizona and loved to travel to see family. Grandma
also loved to sew and played lots of cards!
Lillian loved spending time with her grandkids. One of her most favorite things was when the
great grandkids would bring her a milkshake or candy of any kind, and she would get to sit down
and enjoy sharing her treats with them.
Lillian is preceded in death by her husband John, her son David, her dad and mom, Carl &
Myrtle Forstrom and her brothers and sister, Jack, Carl Jr, & Frances. She is survived by her
daughter Carol Ann (Mike), her granddaughters Jennifer (Bart) and Elizabeth (JD), her great
grandchildren Cyrah, Brenden, Kobe & Gresyn, her sister in law LaBelle Forstrom along with
many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday September 22nd at 2:00 PM at Martin’s Mortuary with graveside
services to follow at Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
Grandma will be missed by many for her genuine smile and her ornery sense of humor. We
would also like to thank her many caregivers she had during her last few months stay at
Edgewood Assisted Living in Eagle, ID.
Memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens
located at 641 Struthers Ave in Grand Junction.
