Margaret Guccini died Sunday, March 19, at HopeWest Care Center surrounded by her loving family, all witness to her courage and determination to rejoin her beloved husband, Louie, who had preceded her in death in 2002. Louie was the love of her life and not a day went by in the past 15 years that she did not lovingly remember their 55 years of marriage. Now they are reunited again.
Margaret was born in 1927 as Margaret Beede. She and her family immigrated to the Grand Valley from Eastern Colorado in 1936 during the Dust Bowl migration. A family picture of her mother and father (Marguerite and Wayne Beede) and the three children sitting on the front stoop of their new home in Loma is in the Library of Congress commemorating the successful resettlement program. Margaret was in the fourth grade at the time. Who would have guessed that her 19-year-old school bus driver would become her future husband—certainly not 9-year-old Margaret. She graduated from Fruita Union High School in 1945, attended one year of college at CSU, and then married Louis Guccini in 1947. Margaret taught second grade at Loma Elementary for one year before starting her own family.
Her true passion was being a mother and creating a beautiful family on the farm in Loma that she and Louie built together. She even won a state competition for homemaker of the year, of which she always said was her proudest moment and greatest achievement.
She will truly be missed by her three children, Wayne, Linda, and Jackie; her seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was always there for each of us with her sunny disposition and loving countenance. Her loving generosity has always been the hallmark of her life that each of us has strived to emulate.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Beede; and sister, Joyce Landini. She is survived by her brother, Bob Beede (Suzy) of Boise, Idaho; son, Wayne Guccini (Mary) of Loma; daughter, Linda Geer (John) of Grand Junction; and daughter, Jackie Skelton (Doug) of Grand Junction. Other survivors include her grandchildren: Matt Guccini of Denver, Carrie Cordova (Lonny) of Loma, Laurie Moorland (Matt) of Fruita, Jennifer Divito of Denver, Colby Smith (Ashley) of Windsor, Nathan Geer of Logan, Utah, and Seth Geer of Denver; and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HopeWest Hospice, 3909B N. 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
A Memorial Service will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary at 2 p.m. on March 24, 2017.
