""Peggie"" Margaret Virginia Keller
January 17, 1926 - October 14, 2014
In her 88 years on Earth, Peggie Keller changed lives. She was someone people of all ages could always talk to: she listened without judgment, was supportive but gave honest feedback, was both smart and wise but never pushed her ideas. She had an open heart and boundless gratitude for everything. Though she was bed-ridden the last 18 months of her life, she was grateful for the love and visits of friends, family and caregivers, and for the things she had been able to accomplish earlier in her life- especially about being able to ride her bike over the Colorado Monument at age 63 and walk across England at age 68.
She was born in Long Beach, California, and grew up, married, and raised her family in Southern California. Her parents were Virginia Kathryn Jurgens and Col. James David Faulkner and she married her beloved husband, Roy (Leroy Rupert), in 1945. In their mid-50's they moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, a place they had come to love on vacations. Though her early years included grief and loss (younger sister when she was five, mother when she was nine, and middle son, Rick when he was 21) she drew strength and wisdom from the grandparents who raised her and in the second half of life, from circles of knowing friends and her Higher Power.
Peggie passed away on October 14th at what she considered home, the Oaks in Fruita, Colorado.
She is survived by her husband, Roy; her brother, David; her children, Ginger (Bob) in Maryland and Sam (Dee Dee) in California; grandchildren, Rick, Bobby, Karen and Adam, and seven great-grandchildren.
Her memorial will be held on Tuesday, October 28th at Callahan-Edfast at 2:00 p.m. Celebrate her life by wearing something pink and bringing a favorite memory.
