

Maria Elizabeth Brumbaugh, age 90, of Grand Junction, Colorado, fortified by the Sacraments and surrounded by family, entered immortality on July 22, 2024, after a brief illness at St. Mary's Hospital. Born on September 13, 1933, in Brentwood, Maryland, to Clarence J. Edwards and Catherine M. Edwards, Maria graduated from the Academy of Notre Dame in Washington, D.C., on June 10, 1951. She worked as a secretary to the president of a bank in downtown Washington, D.C.
Maria entered into the Sacrament of Matrimony with her husband Charles W. (Chub) Brumbaugh on January 9, 1954, at St. James' Church in Mount Rainier, Maryland, where she had also received the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. They celebrated 70 1/2 years of marriage. The couple moved to Pueblo and then Grand Junction, Colorado.
Throughout her life, Maria was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and Catholic. She had a diverse range of interests, including sewing, gardening, cooking, cleaning, carpooling, volunteering, art, classical music, and opera.
Maria is survived by her husband, Chub; her children, M. Catherine (Cathie) Menzies and Caren M. Brumbaugh, both of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Charles M. (Chuck) Brumbaugh (Kathy) of Whitewater, Colorado; her grandchildren, James L. Menzies (Angela) and Jordanne R. Menzies of Grand Junction, Colorado; her great-grandchildren, Savannah, Lane, and Noah, as well as step-grandchildren, Jerika and Dylan; and her great-great-grandchildren, Macklynn, Mellisa, and Oaklee.
She is also survived by her sister, Madeleine M. Sayegh (Richard) of Palos Verdes Estates, California; her brother, James L. (Jim) Edwards (Bessie) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and numerous cousins and nephews.
A private family viewing has taken place. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, located at 790 26 1/2 Road, Grand Junction, Colorado, 81506, followed by a procession to the columbarium. A reception with light refreshments will follow.
