Marie Bailey October 11, 1928 - June 25, 2012

Willie Marie Bailey of Grand Junction, Colorado, went home to her Lord and Savior on June 25th, 2012. She was 83 years of age.

Marie was born in Dalhart, Texas, on October 11, 1928, to Charles James and Laura Esther (Gomer) Gallett. She spent her childhood there and graduated from Dalhart High School in 1947. She often spoke of the years she played basketball and pitched on the boys baseball team while in school. June 12, 1949, she married Charles Albert Bailey and they moved to Grand Junction where they have resided in the family home for 59 years. She led an active life and kept her church and family ties close and strong. She was a faithful and dedicated wife of 63 years and a devoted mother. Her hobbies included doing puzzles, embroidery, jewelry making, and table games with her family. The occasional camping and fishing trips always delighted her. Over the years she has worked at Gilbert’s Market, El Palomino Hotel, KLB Printing and the Gibson’Store on North Ave. She had a good life and has always enjoyed her home, grandchildren and family around her. She was the youngest child of her family and was preceded in death by both her parents, Charles (1975) and Esther (1964), and all her siblings: Lola Katherine Gallett (1913), Charles David Gallett (1983), Geneva Pearl (Gallett) Payne (2004), and Lewis Grover Gallett (1994). She is survived by her husband, Charles, and their four children, spouses and descendants. Her children: Terry Schafer of Tulsa, OK; Paula Welch (and Jim) of Montrose, CO; twin sons Donald Bailey (and Virgie) of Henderson, CO, and Ronald Bailey (and Norma) of Grand Junction, CO. Her eleven grandchildren and their spouses: RJ & Andrea Schafer, Charles & Elizabeth (Welch) Wagner, Jared & Teri (Alverson) Theis, RC & Lee Ann Schafer, Daniel & Mandi (Welch) Parkhurst, Jason & Kim Bailey, John & Jennifer Welch, Rey & Donna Bailey, Mark & Sara Welch, Bobby Alverson, and Jovelyn Bailey. We share your pain & tears with the loss of Marie, loving wife, Mother, aunt & friend. We look forward to those tears drying, the pain easing and the emergence of all the memories. Our personal memories bring smiles and chuckles.. We were so lucky to have Charles & Marie join our family reunion in Canby in 2002. We remember her warmth and fun spirit, I can still see her taking the belly dancing lessons along with the rest of we girls, all of us looked quite ridiculous, except for Marie, she showed a lot of class! She visited with us here in Bella Vista along with Genevia, two other times, and we always looked forward to being with her and enjoying her bubbly humor and good will, and with those two sisters together, there was always good natured bantering back and forth. We immediately missed her each time she left, and we know how badly she will be missed by her family and friends who shared her life so completely. Now, with the two of them Up There together, don't you know............
We feel so very blessed to have shared just a wee portion of her life!
Our love, and prayers are with you all, in this time of great sorrow.
