Mary Lurelle Adams

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Clifton Christian Church.

Ms. Adams was a retired accountant.

Survivors include a son, Robert VanMatre of Grand Junction; three daughters, Tracy Klumker of Fruita, and Brenda Case and Anita Scott, both of Grand Junction; one sister, Bernita Robertson of Battlement Mesa; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchilren.

Mary Lurelle Adams, 78, of Grand Junction went home to The Lord on May 9, 2015. A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life at 2:00PM on Friday, May 15, at Clifton Christian Church.

Mary was born on June 13, 1936, in Denver, Colorado, to Fred and Anita Howe. Her childhood was spent in Commerce City, Colorado. She attended Adams City High School and graduated from Mesa College with an MBA. Mary was self employed with Adams Business Services until her health failed in 2012.

In 1952, Mary married Eugene Van Matre, who passed away in 1977; four children were born from this union. In 1980, Mary married the second love of her life, Kelley O. Adams, who passed away in 1999.

Much of Mary’s life was spent in service to others. Mary held several offices with The League of Women Voters, served on the Mesa County Library Board for a number of years, and served many years as a PTA mom. Although all of these services were important to Mary, her time spent serving The Lord through various activities at Church were closest to her heart.

Mary adored her family and friends, loved to travel, was an avid reader, and believed that the day was not complete until the crosswords were finished.

Mary is survived by her children: Robert (Carolyn) Van Matre; Tracy (Terry) Klumker; Brenda (Mark) Case; and Anita (Eric) Scott, of Mesa County; her sister, Bernita Robertson, of Battlement Mesa; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her faithful pets, Jasmine and Felix.
