Mary Ann (Woodward) Packard passed away peacefully on September 24, 2015. She was 90. Born in Greeley to Harold and Harriet Woodward, she enjoyed ice skating, tap dancing and eating sandwiches with her dad while they listened to Chicago Cubs games on the radio.
Ever brave and feisty, Mary Ann attended The Colorado College, where she was inducted into the Biology Club by biting the head off a gecko. At CC, Mary Ann also met her heart’s twin flame, her beloved husband, Bob, after WWII. They were married August 25, 1948. Together with their four children (she prided herself that all four were always in clean clothes with combed hair when Bob came home from work!), they cultivated a rich life in Grand Junction, where Mary Ann served as a Kids on the Block puppeteer, a Tope Elementary PTA member, the first woman on the vestry at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, an Amigos Foreign Exchange host parent, JUCO team host (she loved her sports!) and St. Mary’s Hospital and American Cancer Society volunteer. Mary Ann also belonged to Kappa Kappa Gamma and was a treasured 70 year member of P.E.O. Her sparkling blue eyes and gentle, knowing heart ensured there was always a friend or neighbor at the kitchen table seeking her advice and companionship.
Mary Ann is survived by her children, Bob (wife Jane), Ann, Gail and Jeanne, grandchildren Jessica (husband Evan), Rob, Will, Megan and Sarah, and great-grandchildren Finnley, Ashford, Whittaker and McKinley. A celebration of her life well-lived is planned for October 24 at 1PM at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, under the direction of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary; a reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Roice Hurst Humane Society, 362 28 Road, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
