Mary Wanetta (Nita) Erwin Weathers, beloved Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma died peacefully in her sleep on September 25, 2023 in Grand Junction, Colorado. Nita was born on March 22, 1930 to William Newton Erwin and Eva Viola Pegg Erwin in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was the adored baby of 11 children. Nita's childhood was spent in the Tulsa area before moving to Grand Junction. In her teen years Nita worked many jobs including ushering at the Avalon Theater and picking fruit. In 1948 Nita met and married Earl Wayne Weathers in Rangely. Nita traveled the country with Wayne, making many friends along the way while working with transcontinental pipeline and growing their family, Gary in 1951 and Sandra in 1954. They had been in 38 states during those travels. The family spent time in Denver, California, Salt Lake City, and Rifle before settling in Grand Junction where Wayne was Superintendent for Ute Water, eventually becoming Manager until his untimely death in 1980. In Grand Junction Nita was a homemaker with many hobbies, but crocheting was her forte. She made tablecloths, Afghans (blankets), baby dresses and won prizes at both the Garfield and Mesa County Fairs. One of her most amazing projects was the lavender wedding dress she crocheted for Sandy. Nita enjoyed caring for her lawn and roses, canning, baking (best German chocolate cake EVER), keeping her home immaculate, and collecting antique plates and glassware. Spending time and sharing her hobbies with her grandkids and great grandkids was the highlight of her life. Nita is survived by son Gary (Joylien), Son-in-law Mike Ohm. Grandchildren, Kelly and Kennt Weathers. Automm Ormsby (Lee) and Wayne Ohm. Great Grandchildren, Silvera, Xavier, and Aleyda Ormsby and Maxson Ohm.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Joseph, Jenny Jenkins, Irene Heape, Charles, Lemuel, Richard, Leo, Lucille Martin, Walter, and Virgil, her husband Wayne, daughter Sandy(Michael)Ohm and grandson Kevin.
Nita requested no services but wished to have a celebration of life at Eagle Rim Park, at a later date. Thank you to HopeWest for all their kindness and help.
