Matthew Lee Carpenter, a lifelong resident of Grand Junction, peacefully passed away on June 10, 2025, at HopeWest Hospice Care Center, succumbing to a short battle with cancer at the age of 67. Born on November 10, 1957, in Grand Junction, Matthew was the cherished son of Ray and Shirley Carpenter. His early years were spent in Grand Junction before his family relocated to New Castle, where he completed his education at Rifle High School in 1976. He later married Sandra Hood, and they had two loving daughters. Their paths diverged in 1995.
A skilled mechanic, Matthew dedicated 37 years of his career to Midas, where his expertise was well regarded. Beyond his professional life, Matthew was an avid outdoorsman, finding solace and joy in hunting, camping, fishing, and boating. These activities were not merely hobbies but a testament to his deep appreciation for nature and the tranquility it offered.
Matthew’s memory is lovingly carried on by his mother, Shirley Carpenter, and his sister, Connie Ballard, both residing in Littleton, Colorado; his daughters, Kristeen Carpenter, and Lacey and Zachary Powell, and his adored grandchildren, Alexandra Sandmann, Kaleb Baker, Miles Powell, and Alyson Powell, all residing in Grand Junction. He was predeceased by his father, Ray Carpenter.
A funeral service to honor Matthew’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Martin Mortuary, followed by a graveside service at Grand Junction Memorial Gardens, 2970 North Avenue, Grand Junction, CO 81504.
