Mayvonne Womack while surrounded by family passed away the morning of July 29, 2024, succumbing to a 10 month battle with melanoma. Though she spent the majority of her life in Farmington, New Mexico, Mayvonne moved to Grand Junction, Colorado in 2021 to be close to her granddaughter, Laura.
She worked as a nurse for 55 years. Mayvonne was big hearted, vibrant and radiated light. She accepted everyone with an open heart, open arms, and a perpetual smile. She had immense passion for her family, her dogs, missions, and the natural world. Mayvonne was adventurous, often exceeding the limits of what one might expect a 77 year old to be able to do. She was a gifted decorator. Often decorating tables for her churches both here in Grand Junction and Farmington.
Mayvonne is survived by her husband Ray, grandson Kyle, granddaughter Laura (Devon). She was preceded in death by her father Paul, mother Yvonne and son Paul.
Prior to her failing health, Mayvonne enjoyed spending time with her highland cows and playing card games with her family. During these later months of her illness, Mayvonne enjoyed watching movies that brought her closer to God, and she loved reading stories that pulled at her heart. More than anything she loved her family and grandchildren.
Mayvonne’s unwavering faith in her Heavenly Father, is the foundation upon which she’s built her life. She loved to entertain, congregate, celebrate, and support others. She beat to her own drum and cherished the many other fabulous drums that she surrounded herself with. Her free spirit was always up for adventure and she was blessed by the many friends who joined her. She loved both the simple and flashy things of life and was deeply sentimental. With a passionate spirit, a determined grit and a smile, she will be remembered as a brave warrior who embodied courage.
While our hearts mourn the loss, we take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering. Her departure comes as a great shock and a deep wound, and it is gravely felt by her entire family and countless others who loved her deeply in her wide-network of community. The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time and asks that you make contributions to The American Melanoma Foundation, Shadow of His Wings International Ministries and/or any personal favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
A memorial service for Mayvonne will be held Friday, August 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Victory Life Church, 2066 Hwy. 6 and 50, Fruita, CO 81521.
