Melissa Rogers Jones, 69, of Parachute, CO, passed away December 1, 2022, surrounded by family. Melissa was born April 24, 1953 to Milton and Wanda (Myers) Rogers in Smithville, MO, the 4th of 12 Children. After graduating from Oak Park High School, in Kansas City, MO, she attended Park College for a short time before marrying her eternal companion, David Wayne Jones in 1972. They raised their family of 6 children in Colorado, the last 38 years in Parachute. Melissa was a stay at home mom for many years, where she taught her children to love music and reading and spent much of her free time driving all over western Colorado attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. In ensuing years, she had several different jobs, recently retiring from Grand River Clinic West, where she worked in medical records. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Melissa was frequently the ward organist and served in many leadership roles. In her later years, she was fondly known throughout the Church and community as “Granny”.
Melissa was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, Joe Rogers. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, her 6 children, Amy Lambert (Eric), Rachel France (Eric), Sarah Susie (Cory), Jennifer Hoyt (Gordon), Charlie Jones (Abbie), and Andy Jones (Amanda); 19 grandchildren; George, Samantha, and Rebecca Lambert, Kayla, Emily, Eric Jr., and Justice France, Korah Carlson (David), Paige Moos (Parker), Ian, Addison, and Eli Susie, Alyssa, Bailey, Phillip, and Morgan Hoyt, Ashlyn, Adam, and Isaac Jones. 3 great grandchildren; Jonah and Noah Carlson and Zoe Moos. 4 sisters; Sally Walker (Bruce), Cynthia Rogers, Jennifer Jury (Paul), and Kim Williams (Steve), 6 brothers; Dave Rogers (Sandy), Charlie Rogers (Chris), Jim Rogers (Kathy), Sam Rogers (Cathy), Tom Rogers and Dan Rogers (Michelle) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service is planned for December 31st at 10 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1400 Birch Ave, Rifle, CO 81650.
