

Melva Jean (Mattas) Fletcher was born in Merrill, Iowa 07/30/40. She graduated from Merrill High School and Married Dick I. Fletcher Dec 20, 1958. They moved to Correctionville Iowa. Then in January of the following year they moved to GJ CO. She went to work for Climax Uranium as a statistical typist. She followed Dick during his Army Service from Ft. Momoth NJ to Ft. Wachucka Arizona where she went to work on the base as a civilian statistical typist. She returned to GJ, CO where she raised her family. She worked for H & R Block for 11 years and then City Market for 20 years. After retiring she took a post retirement job as a receptionist for Hot Streaks Beauty Salon. She truly enjoyed gardening, camping on Grand Mesa and spending time with her children ,Todd and Lesley, and of course her grandchildren, Devin, Dawson, Paige and Kara.
She also enjoyed volunteering for the Gift Shop at St. Mary’s Hospital, playing cards, reading and shopping. Melva took her after her mother in cooking and entertaining and loved to make seven course meals for anyone who wanted to eat.
She is preceded in death by her parents Leslie & Lucille Mattas; brother, Marlyn Mattas; and sister, Jeanette Engle. She is survived by her husband Dick Fletcher; son Todd Fletcher; daughter Lesley Brown (Dirk), nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
