

Melvin Seevers, Jr., “Fibber”, passed away at Colorado Canyons Hospital in Fruita, Colorado at 83 years of age. Melvin was born January 10, 1938 to Melvin B. Seevers “Birdie” and Marie Seevers of Grand Junction, Colorado. He started working at a very young age for his father at Colorado West Packing, and continued working in the meat industry throughout Western Colorado at various places that included Waddels Market in Fruita, Grand Junction, and Orchard Mesa. He also helped design, construct, and worked at Butcher Boy Packing in Delta, Colorado which is now Calloway Packing. Melvin then went on to own and work as Vice-President of Grand Valley By-Products, a local rendering plant from 1968 until its closure in 2002.
On April 17, 1961, Melvin married Georgia Slaughenhaupt in Grand Junction, Colorado at his parents’ house. They spent the next 60 years enjoying each other’s company especially after his retirement in 2002 when they had much more time to spend together. Melvin also spent some of his quality time teaching his two children Mel and Michael various skills and lessons that he spent his lifetime learning. His hobbies included reading books on Colorado and Utah history, watching western movies, bird watching, and spending time with loved ones.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna Bennett; and various aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife Georgia; sons, Mel Seevers of Grand Junction, CO and Michael Seevers (Hila Johnson) of Loma, CO; sister, Judy Workman (Alan) of Grand Junction, CO; granddaughter, Lilli Seevers of Loma, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Colorado Canyons Hospital for the care he received while he was there. In lieu of flowers, Melvin and the family would rather you spend your time and money with your loved ones. Melvin, “wouldn’t want any damn dying flowers wasted on me”. Cremation has already taken place, and per his wishes there will be no services.
