Michael August Aubert passed away at his home on October 10, 2015 of heart failure. Mickey was born March 5, 1946 in Price, Utah to August and Maxine Gilligan Aubert. The family moved to Grand Junction when Mickey was a child and he attended schools here, graduating from Grand Junction High School in 1964. He played football at Snow College in Manti, Utah.
Mickey served in the Army including duty in Vietnam as a door gunner on a helicopter. He received a number of commendations including a meritorious achievement Air Medal for flying rescue missions under heavy combat conditions. After his discharge from the service he returned to Grand Junction and married Binkie Sue DeRose in June of 1969. They later divorced.
Mickey worked for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad as a brakeman and a conductor. After his retirement, his interests included rock hunting and exploring the deserts and Canyonlands with his dogs; Bonnie and Clyde.
Mickey is survived by his mother Maxine Aubert, his sisters Camille (Dennis) Ficklin, Kim Aubert Larson, Chele (David) Hawks, and numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins. His father, Augie, predeceased him.
A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Graveside services will be Friday morning at 10:00 at Crown Point Cemetery, 23 ½ Road and I ½ Road.
