Otho Edward Young
December 31, 1931 – August 4, 2018
Otho Young, 86, passed away Saturday, August 4th, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Otho Edward Young was born on December 31st, 1931 to Ruby Evelyn Young in Vinson, Oklahoma. He married Deva Darlene Smith on July 1, 1961. Otho and Darlene raised two children together. His life’s adventures include active duty service in the United States Army where he served overseas in France. After the Army, he enjoyed working on a seismograph crew for Phillips Petroleum. He lived and travelled far and wide across the American West from Moab, Utah to Dickinson, North Dakota and many places in between. After leaving Phillips to settle down and raise a family, he worked for Grand Junction Steel until he retired in 1994. Otho was an accomplished gardener, mechanic, and all-around handy man. He took his family on many RV trips where they enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, and sightseeing. Otho is predeceased by his wife, Deva Darlene Young; and brother, Bobby Oran Barringer. He is survived by his son, Douglas Edward (Jill) Young, of Grand Junction; daughter, Susan Lynn Young, of Denver; two sisters, Pamela Ann Low, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Darena Kay Guthrie, of Fritch, Texas; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 10th at 4:00 pm at Martin Mortuary.
