Gail Verzuh was an incredibly caring human being who, throughout her life, gave to others much more than she ever took. Her kind heart guided her actions and elevated those around her, from family members to her dearest friends. Nothing on paper could truly capture her warm and mischievous smile, her clever sense of humor, or her huge heart.
Gail met and married the love of her life, Jay Verzuh, nearly 43 years ago. They then had two children, Tana and Loni, who helped create the family she truly longed for. Jay and Gail established a business together, raised a family, and made sure to have fun along the way. Gail loved to cook (according to many, her food was “damn good”), going out of her way to track down recipes and try different cuisines. She was also incredibly creative, painting ceramics, designing tea towels, and knitting, to name a few of her passions. Nothing gave her more pleasure than to give these creations away, creating the perfect “just because” box or Christmas present. It was not unusual to get a text telling the recipient to make sure and check their mailbox because she had just sent a batch of Rice Krispie treats or something fun.
Throughout the years, Jay and Gail decided that they wanted to travel more. They went between Tucson, AZ, Alpine, WY, and their original home in Grand Junction, CO enjoying more mellow weather. In Wyoming, Gail could be found paddling her kayak around the reservoir, taking photos of flowers, and collecting beautiful driftwood. Every year she looked forward to getting her first hike in Arizona to keep track of her owls and other local wildlife. And Gail always loved coming home to Grand Junction for time spent with family and friends, especially over the holidays. No matter where she spent her time, she was always surrounded by friends and family because she was genuinely adored by all she graced.
To say she will be missed is a gross understatement. Loved ones that cleared the path for Gail are her parents Jess and Pearl Penman and brother-in-law, Glen Clark. Loved ones that will miss Gail until they meet again are her husband Jay Verzuh; her daughter and her partner Tana Verzuh and Cody Wallace; her daughter and son-in-law Loni Verzuh and Alex Young; her siblings Larry, Sharon, and Ron; her sisters-in-law Patty Montgomery and Christine Verzuh; and more dear and faithful friends than we could possibly list. Nothing would please her more than to know that multiple gin and tonics were consumed while creating this loving dedication.
