Paul Gene Schneider, 76, passed his earthly home into his heavenly home February 4, 2017, at home surrounded by family.
Paul was born in Merrill, Iowa, July 20. 1940, to Dwight and Coral Schneider. They lived with Dwight's parents on the family farm in Iowa. Due to the humid climate there Paul developed an asthmatic condition that required the family to move to a drier climate. This happened during the depression and they had just enough gas to make it to Arvada, Colorado, where they settled. He spent his school years in Arvada and graduated in 1958.
He developed and displayed a music talent at an early age and this led to his life's work in music teaching and performing. He went to school in Greeley, CO, where he met his future wife, Della, his wife of 54 years. They both graduated with music teaching degrees. This partnership led to three remarkable sons, Mark, Eric and Chad.
Paul returned for his MA and Dr's degree to the University of Northern Colorado. He and Della taught in Grand Junction schools for 35 years. After teaching at Grand Junction Junior High for 5 years he then moved to Mesa State University. During his teaching years Paul accrued many teaching awards and honors......too many to mention here. One was retired outstanding faculty at Mesa. Another was Colo. Music Hall of Fame award. His performing groups won many playing awards. This list could go on a long time. After Paul retired he continued to return to Mesa to support the fine arts. His portrait hangs in the instrumental hall at CMU. In actuality he will be remembered as ""Mr. Music"" of Grand Junction.
Survivors include his wife, Della; sons Eric (Norma); Chad (Kim). Son Mark predeceased him in death as well as his parents, Coral and Dad, Dwight.
Family requests that instead of flowers, contributions be sent to Hope West. Special thanks go to the Hope West team and Columbine Caregivers. Their time, patience and love to Paul was outstanding
