
Paula was born on October 20, 1954, in Richmond, Virginia, to Leland and Mary Ellan (Reinhard) Young. She was raised in Virginia and graduated from high school before attending the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.
Paula enjoyed a distinguished career as a computer programmer, contributing her talents to projects associated with GPS technology and the Hubble Space Telescope. She was known for her intelligence, dedication, and passion for solving complex problems through technology and mathematics.
On her life's journey, Paula was first married to Bobby Young, who preceded her in death. She later married Brian MacFarland in Grand Junction, Colorado. Together, they shared a loving partnership and many happy memories.
Paula had been a resident of Grand Junction for the past five and a half years. In her free time, she enjoyed RV travel, exploring new places, and spending time on the computer. Her curiosity, adventurous spirit, and love of learning remained with her throughout her life.
She is survived by her husband, Brian MacFarland of Grand Junction, Colorado; her brother, Jim Jackoway of Charleston, South Carolina; and her sister, Laura Ludvigsen of Richmond, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Mary Ellan Young, and by her former husband, Bobby Young.
A Friends and Family BBQ Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at 993 E. 3rd Ave., Broomfield, Colorado.
Paula will be remembered for her sharp mind, kind heart, adventurous nature, and the lasting impact she made on those who knew and loved her. Her memory will be cherished always.
