

Richard Zell, age 99, of Clifton, CO, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at his home. Richard was born on December 23, 1924 in Chicago, IL to Earl C. Zell and Isabel Paddock Zell. He spent his childhood in Chicago, IL and attended high school in Waukegan, IL. He proudly served his country in the US Army as a Private First Class during WWII. Richard was a member of the Local 150 Operating Engineers and worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator throughout his career. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing and dancing and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Grand Junction, the Moose Lodge, VFW, and the Burma Star.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Isabel Zell; his beloved wife Phyllis Zell; his step-children, Thomas Davis, Keith Davis, Bruce Davis, and Deborah Young; and his siblings, Betty Dvorak, Gerald Seger, Myrna DePew, and Donna Moon.
Survivors include his son Richard David Zell (Angeline Finnegan) of Lake Villa, IL; his nephew, Richard Padlo of Florida; his step-son Chris Davis of Twinsburg, OH; his sisters, Joann DePew and Judy Cameron of Kenosha, WI; his grandchildren, Michael Zell of Florida, Ricky Zell of Grand Junction, CO, James Zell of Texas, Trevor Zell of Illinois, Tory Tasker of Texas, Sara Finnegan of Illinois, Cristian Arriaga of Illinois, and Jase Zell of Illinois; and his great grandchildren, G'Yanni Zell, Julianni Zell, Londen Zell, and Sophia Finnegan.
A graveside service for Richard will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado, 2830 Riverside Pkwy., Grand Junction, CO 81501. A celebration of life will follow at the Moose Lodge, Grand Junction, CO.
