Rico Angelo Gallegos

We are honored to share the life story of Rico Angelo Gallegos, who passed away on August 21, 2026, at the age of 36.

Rico was a lifelong resident of Fruita, Colorado. He was born on May 7, 1990, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, to Russell and Lori Gallegos. He attended Shelley’s Elementary, Fruita Junior High, and Fruita Monument High School, graduating in 2008. He later earned an Associate Degree from Christian University.

Rico was deeply devoted to his family and relatives. His grandparents, Louie and Faye Romero, held a special place in his heart, and their memory remained an important part of his life. Rico cherished his family connections and the memories shared across generations.

Rico had a vibrant personality and a way of making himself known wherever he went—truly living up to his beloved nickname, “Rico Suave.” He brought his own unique energy and personality to the people around him and will be remembered for the moments, laughter, and memories he created with those who loved him.

Rico was also deeply passionate about his 15-year career at St. Mary’s Hospital. His career began in the kitchen at just 17 years old, and through hard work and dedication, he advanced through various positions during his time there. His work became an important part of his life, as did the people and experiences he encountered throughout his career.

Outside of work, Rico was especially devoted to his beloved macaw, Lola, who was a very special part of his life. His love for Lola was a reflection of the caring and loyal nature he showed toward those he loved.

Rico loved nature and had a deep appreciation for the beauty of the place he called home. The Colorado National Monument held a special place in his heart. The towering red cliffs, open skies, and rugged beauty of the monuments were part of the landscape he grew up with and loved. Fruita was not simply where Rico lived—it was home, and the surrounding beauty and nature were woven into who he was.

Rico was an avid traveler from an early age. With his U.S. passport in hand, he explored the Caribbean islands, Mexico, and numerous cities throughout the United States. He loved experiencing new places, seeing new things, and making memories along the way. His adventurous spirit was a reflection of his curiosity and zest for life.

Rico leaves behind a lifetime of memories with his family, friends, coworkers, and all those fortunate enough to know and love him. Though his life was far too short, the impact he made and the memories he created will remain with those who knew him.

He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
