Bob led a happy and fulfilling life. He married Mary Joan Petcoff on September 6, 1965, in Denver, CO. They were married for over 51 years and received a 50th wedding anniversary commemoration from Bishop H. Tafoya.
Bob was well known throughout the community of Grand Junction and State of Colorado for his involvement in numerous and diverse activities and organizations. To sum up his role in a single word it would be “service.” Everyone he worked with always knew him as a conscientious and spirited person. Always there to lend a hand or take on a designated role, he did it with gusto. He was known to have a joke or a ribbing; he could “give it as well as he could take it.”
Bob attended North Denver High School and graduated in 1954. After graduation he attended Colorado State University and graduated in 1957 receiving his B.S. in Forest-Range Management. He went to work for the Bureau of Land Management (“BLM”) in 1957 and rered in November 1990.
Bob served in the U.S. Army Reserve with 22 years’ service and rered at the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Bob had numerous and varied hobbies. From running and serving as President with the Mesa Monument Striders to volunteering with the Museum of Western Colorado, Colorado Welcome Center in Fruita, CO, Special Olympics Games Event Director for Grand Junction and Area Management Team, to being a critical instructor and instructor trainer for the American Red Cross and AARP Driver Safety Programs. Always one to share in his knowledge and expertise, he was a guest lecturer at Mesa State College (now known as “CMU - Colorado Mesa University") and School District 51 on American Indian Culture (he was the President of the Grand Junction Native American Club) and as a Continuing Education Instructor at CMU. He was a member of N.A.R.F.E. and Knights of Columbus professional organizations.
Bob is survived by his siblings Jack Kline, Jim Kline (Vanessa), Michael Kline (Michelle), David Kline (former wife Katherine Cabral, and former stepdaughter Iris VanDalen), Lisa Kline, Christa Medina (Jose, Michael, Fernando, Esperanza) and faithful companion Domino.
A military memorial graveside service with honor guards will occur at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 3:00pm. The funeral arrangements have been overseen by Nikya Tattershall of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary & Crematory in Grand Junction, CO and Judy Hettinger of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Grand Junction, CO.
Bob will be missed by all that knew and loved him. Godspeed and may he rest in peace.
