ROBERT NORMAN (BOB) MEYERS was an inspiration for nearly 100 years to all who knew him. Bob grew up in Pittsburgh and enlisted in the Army Signal Corps during WW II where he oversaw the radio relay station in Hawaii connecting the US to the Pacific Theater. He returned to New York after the war and graduated from NYU with a degree in Advertising. In 1951 he married the love of his life Theresa Rakowski, beginning an enduring love story lasting for over 60 years. Bob and Terry raised their family in New York and Belgium before moving to Grand Junction in 2001.
Always ahead of his time as an Advertising and Sales Executive, Bob had the unique ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. He touched and inspired many lives with his quiet smile, constant sense of humor, laughter, sound advice, and simple acts of kindness. One of his many mottos was “Carpe Diem – Seize the Day” and Bob lived life every day to its fullest. It was a privilege to know him because he loved helping others. The memory and sustaining impact of his life will live on.
He was the beloved Father to Robert F. Meyers, Richard C. Meyers, proud Grandfather to Nicole Meyers and Alexander Meyers, Uncle Bob to Dr. JoAnne Virgilio, Dr. George Gromke, the Gromke, Virgilio, Heermann, Gamble, and Meyers extended families, and with deepest appreciation to the wonderful community at The Fountains in Grand Junction where Bob happily lived for over 10 years.
A virtual Celebration of Life service will be announced for early January.
