Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, followed by burial at Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
He retired from Colorado Mesa University.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine.
Robert P. Stokes “Bob” was born in Redvale, CO, August 12, 1934 to Fred W and Leona Margaret (Margie) Stokes. He grew up on a ranch moving to DeBeque, CO in the 1950’s. He attended Colorado State University and Mesa Junior College where he met Katherine Petek. They were married September 23, 1956 and just recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Bob continued his education graduating from Western University in 1962 and later received his Master Degree from Colorado State University.
He began his teaching career at Grand Junction Junior High School, then worked at the Colorado State Employment Agency, before joining the Vocational Department at Mesa College. He finished his career in the Placement Department of Mesa College and
retiring from there in the 1990’s.
He established a side career in rotor-tilling and lawn prep, because he was always a “farmer”, which gave him a “good” reason to own a tractor and “play” in the dirt. He also spent a few years helping in a hunting guide service with good friends and coworkers. This gave him a reason to own his two horses (his “pets”). He gave rides to all the relative’s children who would ask him. He was a cowboy at heart!
He is survived by his wife, Katherine, his sister-in-law Norma Stokes of Albuquerque, NM, and many nieces and nephews including Greats & Grands, three of which share Bob’s birthday (Lynne Ann, Kim, & Cheryl) and one wedding anniversary of Tara and Chip.
Memorial contributions may be made to CMU Emeriti Foundation Scholarship.
