He was born on August 4, 1954, to Charles Robert and Donna Gayle (Wells) Watkins in San Rafael, California.
The early years of Robert’s life were spent between San Rafael, California, and Fruita, Colorado, before the family settled in Fruita in 1955. He attended school through the 7th grade before beginning what would become a lifelong and accomplished career as a talented carpenter. His craftsmanship, dedication, and attention to detail were admired by all who knew him.
Robert loved the outdoors. He could often be found four-wheeling, camping, or watching drag races. More than anything, he cherished spending time with his family — those were his happiest moments.
He is survived by his children Nate Watkins (Stacy), Branden (Sarah) Watkins, and Jessica Watkins; his grandchildren Lily, Faith, Addison, Destiny, Chance, and Misty; his sisters Darlyn (Thomas) Galvin and Jerry Sue Redden; his brother Roy (Terri) Watkins; and his half-brothers Michael (Tiffany) Watkins, Elijah (Katie) Watkins, Aaron Watkins, and Seth Watkins.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Robert will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and the love he poured into both his family and his work. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 8th, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Robert will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita in a private ceremony.
There will be a gathering afterward at the DoubleTree Hotel, 743 Horizon Drive, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Children’s Cancer Society or another cancer-related charity of your choice, in Robert’s memory.
