It is with great sadness we announce that Roger N. Wilcox passed away on the evening of Tuesday, March 14th, 2017 at the age of 66. He is survived by his son, Eric S. Wilcox, his daughter Jennifer R. Goodwin, his son-in-law Paul J. Goodwin, his grandson Devon C. Goodwin and his dear and beloved friends Sharon Dixon and Mike Johnson and their families, all of whom enriched his life tremendously.
Roger was a man of many talents and led a rich and varied life. At the young age of 19, Roger enlisted in the Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. When he returned home, he became an Entrepreneur and Realtor, becoming a primary figure for the Ethics Committee and Exchange groups for the Grand Junction Area Association of Realtors for years as well as a fierce negotiator in Commercial Real Estate Transactions. He was brilliant in working the deal, and was widely respected among his peers and clients. He was a driving force for the automation for Meridian Land Title, and created and wrote efficient closing programs that were used exclusively. He discovered early in life that he was good at almost anything he tried due to his relentless work ethic and dedication in his service to others.
Roger was an independent and self made man, and unapologetically lived his life his way. He was described by many as a very genuine man. He loved to hunt, fish, ski and spend time in the mountains, especially trips to Douglas Pass where he and Sharon would spend extended time riding ATVs. Roger was a part of Sharon’s life for over 30 years, her husband for many years and remained her best friend for life. Sharon and his close friends and family also knew Roger as a dreamer with a vivid imagination and a passionate love of storytelling which is likely what made him such a voracious reader, a whimsical poet and a dedicated author who often traded short stories with his daughter via email and even wrote short action stories for his favorite son-in-law, Paul. Roger exhibited a courage few could in his final years and continued fighting the good fight until the end. He will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held for Roger on Friday, May 26th 2017 at 10:00AM at the Orchard Mesa Cemetery located at 2620 Legacy Way, Grand Junction, CO. 81503. All friends are welcome.
Arrangements under the direction of Martin Mortuary, Grand Junction, CO.
