Ronald Richard Jaynes
November 18, 1940 - April 3, 2016
Ron Jaynes was born in Grand Junction, CO on November 18, 1940, to Bessie and Oscar Jaynes and was raised in Clifton, CO. The pride, interest and knowledge he had of the Grand Valley was vast and his nostalgia was charming and sincere.
He graduated from Central High School in 1958, attended Mesa Junior College for one year and graduated from Colorado State University with a B.A. in Science and Entomology. He married Nancy Terry on September 25, 1965. She preceded him in death on December 23, 2014. After two years in California, Ron and Nancy spent the rest of their lives as residents of the Western Slope, primarily in Palisade.
Ron and Nancy were the parents of Ronda Clark, Grand Junction, CO; Linda (Tony) Anton, Longmont, CO; Sandra Jaynes, Longmont, CO, and son-in-law, Chris Clark, Collbran, CO. His greatest pride, entertainment and joy came from his grandchildren, Kelsey, Kaie and Kendal Clark; Peyton, Tristan, Rylan and Grayson Anton, and Emerson Jaynes.
Well known for his artwork, paintings and drawings, Ron gifted most of his work to friends and family. Many have received one of his cartoons, horse sketches, caricatures or paintings of Mt. Garfield or the Colorado National Monument. He also free-hand designed characters for a Public Service marketing campaign, many maverick characters for Mesa State College events, along with other community happenings, as well as several logos for local businesses, usually without credit to himself.
Ron enjoyed the long hours keeping a meticulous yard and his long naps afterward, multiple genres of music and any old western, well-spent time at the family cabin on the Grand Mesa and visiting with any dog he met. He served on the East Orchard Mesa Fire Department for over 30 years, and on the Ute Water Board from 1989-2009. He was a contributor to the Palisade Historical Society, creating the Historic Palisade Coloring Book and writing some historical pieces including one about the the German Prisoners of War who lived at the CCC Camp and worked to harvest peaches during WWII. He worked for Grand Junction Pipe and Supply, owned his own company - Radiant Sales, and retired from the Palisade Greenhouse in 2008.
Ron could not say no to anyone in need of a favor, but would rarely ask or accept one in return. He was full of strong opinions and would never hesitate to share any of them, but ultimately was full of good humor, good spirit and loved to tease or a tell a corny joke.
He is survived by his daughters, grandchildren, and brother, John Jaynes, Littleton, CO. He is preceded in death by his brother, David Jaynes, Arvada, CO.
Services will be held Saturday, April 30th at 10:00 a.m. in the Ute Water Board Room, 2190 H 1/4 Road, Fruita, CO. Nancy will be honored at that time as well.
Donations may be made to the East Orchard Mesa Volunteer Fire Department P.O. Box 164, Palisade, CO 81526.
