Steve and Family:

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. Both he and your mother were important parts of my life and I think of them and the fun we had frequently.

Your dad was my first principal/superintendent and I learned a lot from him. To establish a good relationship with him was very important because his wife, Doris, was the best friend I have had in my adult life. We shared many tales and jokes over coffee after school almost on a daily basis.

Both Doris and Roy were great supports to me during my divorce and provided me with sound and fair suggestions.

I also enjoyed seeing Roy at CDE when I had business down there. He always seemed happy to see me and was very welcoming.

I think the thing I miss most about both of them was their humor. They were great fun to be with.

I'm sorry I could come to Roy's memorial but know my thoughts were with you.

Love, Janice

Steve and Family,

Mom and my thoughts are with you today as we are unable to attend the services.

Roy was a wonderful relative and joy to be around at the family parties. He always had a bag full of jokes to tell where he and my father always had a contest to tell the most jokes.

When dad died over a year ago, he kept in touch with my mother to see if she was doing well and to keep us informed with the "News from Parachute".

We will miss him greatly.

Roy, I only got to know you over the past 4 years. You were such a kind, gentle soul. We at the pharmacy enjoyed your visits. You became our favorite "Handsome Roy". You always had a smile and funny humor. I will never forget when I asked how you were. You replied"I am on the top side of the grass"!
You have made your journey to heaven. We will meet again on the other side. We will miss you but not forget you. Prayers to your family.

Coach, you meant a great deal to a whole bunch of "Penrose" kids. We all needed a mentor and you were there. You even took time away from your schedule and your family to go on a 2-week senior trip with some of us. We have enjoyed your letters through the years and will miss you so very much - missed but not forgotten - ever.

I first met Roy 11 years ago when I had just moved here from Illinois and was invited to join a breakfast group of retired educators that later became known as the Royal Order of Has Beens. Since that time I probably have had breakfast with Roy over two hundred times and really got to know this kind, intelligent and gentle man quite well. He was the leader of the Has Beens and he kept the group together all these years, even sending out reminders of each breakfast meeting that included an agenda of discussion items for the week's meeting. We never ever solved the world's problems, but that was never the purpose of the "meetings." It was a time to enjoy each others company. Roy even instituted a system of fines for missed meetings (5 cents per meeting) with the money going to charity. It was all in good fun.

I so looked forward to these get- togethers. Roy always had a great, funny story to tell and was always able to poke fun at himself, right up to our last meeting a couple of weeks ago. I will miss Roy very much and I will always remember him as the leader of the Has Beens.

I was sorry to hear about your loss. Although, I did not know your father I had heard good things about him. It is hard to lose a parent. My mother passed away a year ago. You are in my heart and prayers. Carol Ortiz Redding (Kathy's sister) from Alamosa, CO.

Roy was such an unique man. Not only was he a caring man, he treated me real nice. He was my sponsor when I joined Kiwanis. I will always hold a special place in my heart for Handsome old Roy. Whenever I saw Roy he always had a smile on his face. I am going to miss Roy and it won't be the same. We the community have lost a great legacy. He definitely was a pillar of Parachute/Battlement Mesa. Thanks Roy. I will always remember you and thanks for being there for me when no one else would be there for me. Love you much, DEB
