Stephen was the third of four children born to Mr. and Mrs. Stegeman. Together they cared for Stephen in the family home until his care needs became too great and he was admitted to the Wheat Ridge Regional Center at age five where he remained until 1994. At which time Stephen moved to the Grand Junction Regional Center where he spent the rest of his life surrounded by those who cared for him until his passing.
During his time at the Grand Junction Regional Center Stephen lived at Grand Mesa North and moving to 29 1/4 rd in 2009.
Stephen was sixty five years old at the time of his passing. His last days were spent surrounded by 29 1/4 rd staff, his housemates, his guardian, and GJRC/Hospice nurses.
Stephen will be remembered as an amazing man with a warm smile for anyone who would stop to chat and a taste for adventure as he would never say no to trying anything new.
