As a child, Sylvia was fortunate to have had two families and enjoyed loving relationships with both. Born December 31, 1934 in a rural area near Tindall, South Dakota to Marie and Jim Poznicek, Sylvia was the youngest of four. She was preceded in birth order by siblings, Frank, Lillian, and Rudy. Shortly after Sylvia’s birth, Marie, her biological mother passed away, leaving her father with no way to both provide for his three older children and care for a newborn. Sylvia was blessed when a kind couple in the community, Marie and John Varilek, offered to adopt, love, and raise her along with their existing seven children—George, Helen, John, Albina, Edward, Charles and William.
Sylvia was a 1953 graduate of Geddes High School and retired from roles in banking at Colorado National Bank and Bank of America. She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother and a sweet, steadfast presence in our lives—always there to support our endeavors, cheer us on, and make us laugh.
She is survived by her husband, Dean Fischer, her four children, Crystal Fischer (Dennis Hendricks), Robin Fischer, Kent Fischer, and Hope Iden (Brian), her sister, Lillian Maurer, and her six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff at the Hope West Hospice Care Center for their excellent and compassionate care.
Services will be scheduled at a later date.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.callahan-edfast.com for the Fischer family.
