On Wednesday, February 24th, Terry Lynn Doeksen, loving father, friend, and brother, passed away at the age of 63.
Terry, known to his friends as “Duke”, was born on December 26th, 1957, to Garrit and Minnie Doeksen in Worthington, MN. Duke spent his young life in Rock Rapids, IA, fishing, getting into trouble, and learning to build houses.
Duke eventually moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, where he lived for nearly 40 years, raising a young family and building a network of friends and neighbors who adored him. His early start in home building evolved into a love of woodworking and carpentry, and he ran Orchard Valley Woodworking for many years out of his home. His favorite pieces to build were children’s rocking chairs, doll furniture, and beautiful shelves. He helped many friends and family members with remodeling projects throughout the years, and took great pride in seeing people enjoy his handiwork.
When Duke wasn’t working, he enjoyed listening to music, hiking and camping, writing his own jokes, and spending time with family and friends. To anyone who knew him, he was a kind, witty man, always ready with a joke to brighten your day, or an extra hand to lighten your load.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents Garrit and Minnie, sisters, Barb Doeksen Sorken and Betty Doeksen Deuschle, and nephew, Mike Deuschle. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Doeksen Brozovich and her husband, Russ, son, William Doeksen Tschetter and his wife, Natalie, sister, Deb Doeksen-Gould, and brother-in-law Doug Gould, grandchildren, Dean and Helen Brozovich, as well as nieces and nephews, Kayleigh Gould, Wendy Doeksen Timmerman, Kim Doeksen, Kendra Shimp, Kathy Meyer, Scott DuBois and Tim DuBois.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please honor Duke’s memory by spreading joy. Make someone smile today.
