It is with great sadness that the family of Tom Mahoney announces his passing on April 11, 2026 in Grand Junction, Colorado surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 15, 1937 in Denver, Colorado to Phil and Mary Mahoney, he was one of seven children. Tom was known for his boundless enthusiasm for life, curiosity for learning, and his endless kindness to everyone he met.
Tom attended Regis High School and College and went on to pursue a career as a survey engineer. He married the love of his life, Darlene Eisenbart, RN in October 1959 at St. Anthony’s Church in Fowler, Kansas. Together they enjoyed an adventurous life they loved for nearly 67 years while raising four children. They built a successful Amway business together and later he worked for the State of Colorado before retiring in Grand Junction. They enjoyed traveling, playing tennis, playing golf, fell in love with snowmobiling and later ATV riding. There was not a mountain they didn’t climb or a trail they didn’t explore on the Western and Eastern Slopes of Colorado. They found their sweetest moments exploring nature in both winter and summer.
As a child, Tom always loved giving and receiving Valentine’s Day cards, and because of this, he began a tradition of sending Valentine’s Day cards to family and friends every year postmarked through Loveland, Colorado or other cities named “Valentine”. He had so much fun; he began doing the same with St. Patrick’s Day cards – continuing to spread joy. After retiring, Tom began ‘collecting a few coins’, but before long he began building an impressive collection – loving every aspect of discovering a rare or special coin.
