Vera passed away at the age of 82 from a long valiant 4-year battle with Leukemia. She fought a hard fight.
Born in California and shortly migrated to Colorado at age 2, due to her mother passing away from illness. She was raised by her Aunt & Uncle, Lena and Glen Humphreys in Grand Junction.
Vera attended local schools and graduated from Central High School. She continued to be active in class reunions and get-togethers. She met Carl Zohner in school and they were married August 1960. They were married for 62 years.
After High School, Vera decided to pursue a nursing career at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Changing gears some, she had other jobs including working for a cattle company, a clothing merchandiser, and a manager of ladies wear for Woolco. Managing her artistic side, she enjoyed ceramics and crocheting beautiful blankets.
Vera was creative and enjoyed cake decorating, ceramics, camping and fishing, and crocheting wonderful blankets she gave to organizations and Child Welfare where her granddaughter works. She also was a Rockies fan and even stuck it out cheering for the Broncos. She also love watching bull riding on tv, sometimes they were re-runs.
She was a long time member of Clifton Christian Church. She thought very highly of the entire staff of oncology at Community Hospital.
Surviving family members: Carl Zohner – husband, Michelle Barnes – daughter, Dennis Barnes (deceased) – son in law, Granddaughter Lindsey Barnes, Broc Ahrens, Grandson Tucker and Nicole Barnes, and a joy and sparkle, of the first Great Granddaughter Elliott Grace Ahrens, and a “soon to arrive” Great Grandson of Tucker & Nicole.
Services will be held on Friday, January 6th, 2023 at 11:00 am at Clifton Christian Church, 3241 F ¼ Road, Clifton, CO.
