Born in South Amboy, NJ to the proud parents of Anton and Anna Werner. Anton resided in Parlin, NJ for most of his formative years. He was also a well-trained Boy Scout, which lifted him to becoming one with nature. He graduated from Sayreville War Memorial High School in 1968.
After high school, Anton enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country proudly. He was assigned to Norfolk, Virginia and the USS Forrestal. During his time with the Navy, Anton received the National Defense Service Medal.
Anton eventually relocated to Texas and became a Civil Engineer at Carter-Burgess. Better known as "Pete", he enjoyed The Great Outdoors. Along his journey, Pete formed lifetime bonds. From childhood friends, to forever hunting buddies, to a special barber, he always extended himself as family. Pete loved hunting seasons, fishing, cigars, grilling, bird watching, identifying trees, gardening and wearing camouflage. He even got a kick out of catching critters in his backyard!
Eventually, Pete met and married the love of his life, Joyce Johnson. They genuinely loved one another and truly enjoyed each other's company! They lived life to the fullest with so much appreciation for the gift they each had. Pete had no idea how much more love was in store for him from his stepdaughter. That was a real father-daughter bond that could never be tarnished.
Helping others was just his way of being himself. Pete regularly donated to several charities for children, animals and nature. He dedicated much of his later years to Meals on Wheels. Both he and his wife shared this passion together. Clients became good friends. Pete also gave much of his time to his grandkids and extended family. He always supported whatever his grandchildren were involved in. In addition to that, he always gave such meaningful advice in the nicest way, even when it wasn't welcomed. Pete was such a loving man who brought joy to his family in many ways! Although many miles separated him from his siblings, nieces and nephews, he never let that stop him from being present in their lives. Anton, Pete, Uncle Pete, Pa-Pa Petey and Mr. Pete...job well done!
Pete is survived by his stepdaughter, LaTrel Johnson (Carlito), 3 step grandchildren Commya LaTrel, Carlito Laphonn II and Carmello LaKenneth; Sister Marjorie Ball (Richard), Sister-in-Law Patricia Werner and a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pete was predeceased by his wife, Joyce Werner; stepson Kenneth Johnson; parents Anton and Anna Werner; brother Carl Werner and nephew Douglas Ball.
