Benjamin Grant Lee Landrey, known affectionately as Benjamin to his friends and family, passed away on January 8, 2026, at the age of 22. Born on October 10, 2003, in Irving, Texas, Benjamin was a beacon of resilience and joy, touching the lives of all who knew him with his friendly demeanor and infectious humor.
Benjamin's early years in Cedar Hill were filled with the love and support of a close-knit family. He is preceded in death by his Grandpa Warren Lee Landrey and Aunt Martha Ollis, along with several great aunts and uncles. His legacy is carried on by his devoted parents, Mark and Kelley Landrey of Cedar Hill, and his cherished twin sisters, Katherine and Sarah Landrey. His grandparents, Bennie and Joan Symank of Duncanville, and Margaret Landrey of Irving, remember him fondly, as do his Aunts and Uncles: David Symank, Michael Symank, Paul and Karen Landrey, and Peter and Beth Landrey. Benjamin's life was further enriched by the companionship of his cousins, Brittany, Christopher, Emily, Jordan, Logan, Katelynn, Robert, Joseph, Jonathan, Jessica, and Ruby, and their families. His best friend, Darryl Ehrhart, and wife Louise, will forever hold Benjamin's memory in their hearts.
Benjamin's journey was marked by courage and determination. A childhood cancer survivor, he triumphed over a brain tumor diagnosed at the tender age of five and a half. His fighting spirit was celebrated during a magical trip to Disney World with Make-A-Wish and through his active involvement in various childhood cancer organizations. Benjamin accepted the Proclamation for the City of Cedar Hill for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month this past September. Despite the challenges he faced, Benjamin's love for life and his community shone brightly.
From the age of three, Benjamin's passion for baseball was evident. He played for the Cedar Hill Cubs until his diagnosis, and his love for the game never waned. A proud 2023 graduate of Cedar Hill High School, Benjamin continued to contribute to the baseball community as the Northwood University Baseball Mascot from 2010 to 2014 and as the Dallas Baptist University Baseball Mascot since 2014. His commitment to the sport was matched by his dedication to his education, as he was a student in the Shift 18 plus program in Cedar Hill ISD.
Benjamin's athletic spirit also found expression in the Cedar Hill Special Olympics, where he was a devoted athlete, winning numerous Gold and Silver medals. His involvement in the Miracle League in his younger years and his achievements as a Cub Scout, earning many patches, further exemplified his zest for life and personal growth.
A faithful participant in Ride for the Kids, Benjamin helped raise funds for the pediatric brain tumor foundation. His community spirit extended to his membership in Hopekids, where he enjoyed a multitude of activities. Throughout his life, Benjamin was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Irving, Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Desoto, and Christ the King Lutheran Church in Waxahachie. His faith was a cornerstone of his existence, having been baptized and confirmed in these congregations, and he drew daily strength from his favorite verse, Joshua 1:9.
Benjamin's life, though brief, was a testament to the power of faith, the joy of sports, and the depth of familial love. His friendly nature and sense of humor left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. As we bid farewell to Benjamin Grant Lee Landrey, we celebrate the extraordinary life he led and the countless hearts he warmed. His spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, just as it did throughout his remarkable journey on this earth.
