

Benny Jewell Hilliard, 74, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024. Benny was born to Nova Jean and Jewell Hilliard on May 17, 1949 in Commerce, Texas. He graduated from Arlington High School and then enlisted in the Army in February of 1968. During his time in the Army, he served two tours in Vietnam and earned numerous commendations including National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and an Army Commendation Medal. After an honorable discharge, Benny later became employed as an Arlington Firefighter where he retired after 30 years of service. This is a job he loved and where he met many life-long friends.
Benny enjoyed outdoor sports. He loved both quail and deer hunting along with fishing. Later in life he also found enjoyment flying remote control planes and bench rest shooting where he won many competitions. Benny was also a Master Mason at Arlington Lodge 438 where he volunteered and served for several years.
Benny is preceded in death by his mother, Nova Jean, father, Jewell, brother Randall Hilliard, and stepson, Bubba Vincik. He is survived by his wife Regina, stepdaughter Karen Staton and her mother Shirley Martin, stepdaughter Angela Julius, and stepson Darren Merchant. He was an awesome Papa to his 7 grandchildren, Dana, Justin, Amy, Grayson, Parker, Blake and Cade along with 3 great grandchildren, Aubrey, Waverly, and Wade.
