

Berta Bazan Sanchez, 81, passed away March 29, 2016. She was born February 5, 1935 in Hidalgo County, TX where she spent her childhood with her parents, four sisters and brother. In her adolescent years she visited Montemorelos, Mexico each summer, training to be a seamstress, which she to sew matching dresses for herself, her young daughters and others. In High School she studied Drama and was Football Sweetheart. Berta was married to Blas Riojas for 17 years. They had 2 sons and 2 daughters. She later married Manuel Sanchez. Berta’s special moments were traveling and spending quality time with her sons, daughters, and grandchildren. Her proudest career moment was working as a Social Worker and Administrator for one of the first Day Care Centers in South Texas. After moving to North Texas, she managed for Jones Apparel in Dallas and later worked for LTV in Grand Prairie. Besides her love for baking, her favorite hobbies were sewing and flower gardening. Her favorite song to sing to her children was “When I was just a little girl” by Doris Day. She loved Frank Sinatra, Connie Francis and Mariachi Music. Because of her energy and love for singing, dancing and whistling it is to no surprise Berta made an entrance to all events keeping it lively with her jokes and laughter. She had much love for her sisters and her best friend Minerva. Her Bible, faith and love for our Lord was in her heart every day. Her positive outlook in life will never be forgotten. She is preceded in death by her parents, Nemecio Trevino Bazan and Olivia Garza Bazan, brother, Jesus Bazan; sister, Maria “Elia” Dominquez and Great Granddaughter Jada Maryn Arebalo. Survived by: sons, Rolando Bazan Riojas, Jose (Joe) Luis Riojas wife Rhonda Carroll Riojas; daughters, Anna “Belinda” Riojas, Monika Guzman-Perez and husband Manny Perez; Grandson, Eric Rolando Riojas; granddaughter, Eliana Riojas; grandson, Wesley L. Riojas and wife Danielle Riojas; grandson, Daniel L. Riojas and wife Jeana Riojas; grandson, Jody Wayne Riojas and wife Rose Riojas; granddaughter, Vanessa LaShae Cantu; granddaughter, Jacqueline Rose Cantu-Gonzalez and husband Angel Gonzalez; granddaughter, Amanda Raquel Franco; grandson, Jay Ryan Guzman; grandson, Andrew Alan Guzman; grandson, Matthew Neal Guzman; great grandchildren, Adrian Vasquez, Audrina Vasquez, Olivia Grace Riojas, Max W. Riojas, Weston Ford Riojas, Christian Hernandez, Avery Jean Riojas, Colby Wayne Riojas, Isabella Yvonne Bailey, Gianna Ryan Guzman, Jenni Demi Guzman and Esme Guzman; sisters, Ana “Delia” Zamora and Elma Pena.
