Betty Jo Beard, 91, of Grand Prairie was welcomed into the loving arms of her heavenly Father December 18th, 2019. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her throughout and gave her the ultimate strength and peace.
Betty Jo was born to the late Roma and Katie Mae King, in Sanger, TX on November 16th, 1928. She was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support from an early age. Betty Jo graduated from Bolivar High School in 1946 and was voted “most athletic” by her classmates and administration. She loved Volleyball and played throughout high school.
Betty Jo was blessed with a loving family. She married her best friend, Walter Beard, on September 11th, 1948 in Sanger, TX. Betty Jo helped raise their three children with love, patience, discipline and humility. From the very beginning, she dedicated her children to God and always encouraged them to seek Christ. She and Walter were one of the founding member couples of the Baptist Temple in Grand Prairie.
In 1963 after Walter was severely injured in an automobile accident, Betty Jo became the sole bread winner. After a short stint at Texas Instruments she was hired at LTV / Vought and worked in the blueprint crib for 24 years before retiring in 1991.
Betty Jo had an incredibly big heart. She was kind and soft-spoken, always had time to help a friend, prepare a special dish for church or lend a sympathetic ear. She especially loved all her grandchildren and never passed up an opportunity to spend time with them. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends, but now celebrate the fact that she is in the arms of Jesus and reunited with all her loved ones that went before her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Walter, her son Steve, four brothers and one sister.
Betty Jo is survived by her loving daughters, Linda Johnson and husband Richard of Grand Prairie; Janis Standridge and husband Stan of Arlington, grandchildren; Angela Ingram and husband Jason of Arlington; Brandy Wood of Palmer TX., Haley Ligon of Manchester, CT., Danica Gehman of Corpus Christie and Breana and husband Lindel Bittick of Crowley; great grandchildren; Hollie Wood of Grand Prairie; John and Kylie Ingram of Arlington and a host of nieces, nephews and family whom she dearly loved.
